We sell our own free range eggs from Laura's Layers, the entertaining chickens at The Paddock available for home delivery. Our hens live in the orchard of our 6.5 acre smallholding, named The Paddock based on the beautiful Northumberland border. Eggs from our own hens are limited in quantity & will be available on a first come first serve basis each week. As such, you cannot order these for a repeat order, meaning you will need to log in and place your order each week for eggs from our own hens. Orders will be limited. We aim to reuse all of our egg boxes, so please return these to your driver for reuse, provided they are in a usable condition.
At The Paddock Smallholding we have a small flock of 50-70 hens of various ages. Most of the hens have been rescued or hatched at the smallholding. We don't kill our male chicks, and we don't kill our hens for reaching a certain age. There is however a certain amount of science goes into producing eggs & they are a seasonal product.
Egg production will naturally slow down as hens get older, & during the winter months when there is less light. As we aim to keep the hens as naturally as possible on our smallholding, they will often also go broody during the summer months, hatching their own chicks, meaning they will also stop laying.
As a result of this more natural approach, our egg numbers vary throughout the year due to factors outside of our control.
